Beauty Fierce as Stars II, Transcendent Women Painters 1930s and Beyond
                                   September 12 - October 18, 2014

Opening Reception: Friday, September 12  5:30 to 8:30  pm

This exhibit, the second in a series, continues to display the work of strong women painters, looking back, beginning in the 1930s, highlighting women who influenced Bay Area art movements of the past and in the ensuing years.  This time we are also featuring
painters, who we feel had an unique vision, not necessarily following the abstract expressionist trends of the period ( which was our focus in the last women's show). We are including painters from following generations, whose work is infused with an awareness of the past and who continue on with their own powerful creations.

Featured Painters
Ariel, Ruth Asawa, Adelie Landis Bischoff, Katherine Barieau, Frances Dunham Catlett,
Anna W. Edwards, June Felter, Hildegarde Haas, Colleen Maloney, Jennifer Pochinski,
Barbara Scales, Louise Smith, and Edith Park Truesdell.

Friday, September 26, 7 pm.  Film night. We are showing a compelling film about the life and career of the figurative painter, Alice Neel, directed by     her grandson. Revealing interviews and beautiful footage of her paintings tell the difficult story of what it took for her to break through in the New York Art World.  We will start the evening with two short films about Ariel Parkinson and Edith Park Truesdell,  painters of the same era, who have work in our current show. David Reid hosts. Refreshments. $5 admission.
Friday, October 10, 7pm.   Join us for a Discussion with the Painters. Including two artists in our current show, Anna W. Edwards and June Felter.  Joining the panel is Helen Park Bigelow, the author of David Park, Painter: Nothing Held Back,  a very personal look at the life of her father, the figurative painter, David Park, and the important relationship he had with his aunt, Edith Park Truesdell.  Alan Selsor of Enfield Art will also join the panel and act as moderator.  Enfield Art showcases the work of a number of artists of the time period, including Hildegarde Haas and Katherine Barieau, whose work is included in our show. David Reid hosts.  Refreshments. $5 at the door.
Saturday, October 18, 3pm.   Lecture/Panel Discussion with Susan Landauer, author of The San Francisco School of  Abstract Expressionism. filmmaker, Mary Kerr. whose films include, San Francisco's Wild History Groove, The Beach, and Venice West, the LA Scene, which provide an intimate glimpse into the Beat Era and artists prominent at the time, and  Alan Selsor of Enfield Art, as panelist and moderator.
