Worldly Eyes
This exhibit presents the work of artists whose cultural perspective informs their art. Included are artists from this country and abroad who express a vision that is all encompassing where survival, dignity and spiritual integrity have risen above suffering and alienation.
Featured artists: Sabah Al-Dhaher, Ariel, Frances Dunham Catlett, Lenore Chinn, Rebeca Garcia-Gonzalez, Daniel Marlin, Pabs, Roger Van Ouytsel, Deborah Rogin, Fran Segal, Louise Smith, Mitzi Trachtenberg, and Mira M. White.

Saturday November 22, 4pm. Fundraiser for David Meltzer.
During September of this year, Beat/SF Renaissance poet, David Meltzer, underwent surgery for cancer, from which he is now recovering. An important author of over 40 books, David has been an inspiration to all for over 50 years. This fundraiser will help with David's medical expenses. Featured poets: Julie Rogers, Owen Hill, Joyce Jenkins, and Jack Hirschman. Music by Zan Stewart. David Reid hosts. $20 suggested donation at the door.
Friday, December 5, 6:30pm. Wise Fools of Gotham will perform traditional Celtic songs from Scotland, Ireland, and England. Featured performers: Colleen Segale on vocals, Josh Reilly on guitar, and Russ Bennett on the Irish bodhran. David Reid hosts. $5 at the door.
Friday, December 12, 7pm. Film Event. My Saraab, a short film about the fascinating and illuminating story of Iraqi American painter and sculptor, Sabah Al-Dhaher, will be screened. Poets, Ralph Dranow and Daniel Marlin will follow with a short reading of their poetry. Refreshments. Free.
Saturday, December 13, 7pm. Film Event. Guy Debord's The Society of the Spectacle (1973). Guy Debord was the most influential figure in the Situationist International, the small avant-garde group that played a key role in provoking the May 1968 revolt in France. The film is Debord's adaptation of his own 1967 book of the same name. Ken Knabb, who has translated both the book and the film, will be on hand for questions. Refreshments. Suggested donation $5, but no one turned away.
